) This show is for an all women cast. ROLES FOR SEVEN VERSATILE ACTRESSES WHO CAN SING to play the part of men in men's clothes. Requires singing and some dancing. FLUENT ENGLISH DICTION IS A MUST. There will be nine performances at The Playhouse on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays starting April 16th and ending May 2nd. The Scene An aristocratic men only club in New York, year 1903. The men (all played by women) are preparing the end of the year show. They delight in male joshing and bantering, sing "macho" songs about the weaker sex, praise the nobility of the male. But someone is sleeping with this best friend's wife. The music is of the period and goes from ragtime to lyrical aria. Audition will consist of three parts Acting: You will be given a text to read Singing: no more than sixteen bars of jazz or ballad type song a capella, with no microphones (no rock'n'roll) Dancing: tap dancers bring a prepared solo. Others will be taught a basic choreography The Characters (all played by women - age ranges are approximate) Maestro (any age): Musical conductor for the show, who is onstage and participates in Club affairs. Must be an excellent pianist as she accompanies all the singing and dancing. Easy singing. No dancing. Algy (40s - 50s): Governor of the Club. Jovial, commanding presence. Must sing and dance. Freddie (20 - 30s): Chairman of the Membership Committee. Handsome, vain, witty, cynical bachelor who is a wealthy gynecologist. Must sing and dance. Bertie (25 - 40s): Treasurer of the Club. Married to a banker's daughter. Loves the good, rich life: the male counterpart of a woman who marries for money. Actress should be able to sing an acceptable lyric version of Vesti la Giubba. Bobby (25 - 30s): Newlywed. Dotes on his wife, but still a mama's boy. Must sing and dance. Henry (18 - 30): The stereotypical servant of the times. Excellent tap dancer. Johnny (20 - 30): Diminutive page, source of all kinds of information for the club members. Ballet training a plus (especially pointe). Should also be able to tap, or learn a tap routine. Please keep in mind that in order to be a part of the cast in the show, you must become a member of The Suburban Players with the payment of a yearly membership fee. The Suburban Players is a totally amateur community theatre that regularly donates part of its proceeds to no profit organizations. There is no remuneration for the show participants.
